Angstrom Sciences, Inc. is Celebrating its 30 Year

Business Anniversary!

Angstrom Sciences, Inc. is proud to celebrate 30 years of providing cutting-edge Magnetron Sputtering Solutions to the Thin Film Deposition Industry.

It began in 1988, when the business was formed to supply sputtering cathodes that were both user-friendly and efficient. Applications in novel technologies such as superconductivity were growing that required exotic and expensive target materials. This drove the market need for a cathode that was easy to use and maintain while providing high target utilization to overcome the cost of running these expensive materials. Development proceeded and a patent was granted to Angstrom Sciences that led to their first Magnetron Sputtering Cathode, the ONYX-2 IC.

In the 1990’s, Angstrom Sciences grew as new applications for thin films were emerging. Additional product lines such as Linear cathodes and Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) cathodes were engineered to meet the growing market needs. The same core values of efficiency and user friendly features went into each new product release. Angstrom Sciences ability to meet customers’ expectations along with the expanding product range led to significant industry contracts and client referrals helped raise awareness about the designs for sustained market growth.

As the need for high performance sputtering cathodes increased, Angstrom Sciences continued to innovate and were awarded several patents that would include Cylindrical magnetron sputtering cathodes in 2006 that delivered exceptional uniformity along with target utilization of 85% without the need of any target enhancements. This new design would round out the product range making Angstrom Sciences able to provide all types of Magnetron Sputtering Cathodes.  This includes Circular, Linear, and Cylindrical target designs in the largest range currently available from 1”/25mm diameter to linear cathodes that are 185”/4700mm in length.

Through industry recognition, growth continued and Angstrom Sciences cathodes became the standard, go-to cathode for many original equipment manufacturers and sputtering system providers. As a testament to this industry acceptance, Angstrom Sciences supplied its 5000th Circular Magnetron Sputtering Cathode in 2013.

Angstrom Sciences continues to provide its partners with the most effective and efficient solutions for their thin film coating needs based upon its unique product range, vast industry experience and its corporate capital with more than 50% of its employees having 10 years or more tenure. This combined with constant innovation will ensure that Angstrom Sciences will continue to be a leader in the thin film deposition industry.

When asked what makes him most proud of his 30 year tenure, company founder Mark Bernick replied, “It’s the relationships with our clients. They are not just customers, but our partners and friends. We know they rely upon us and that we share the same level of commitment and dedication to their process and goals.”

Angstrom Sciences would like to take this opportunity to express its sincere thanks and appreciation to all clients, representatives, distributors, vendors, and business partners for their continued support and commitment over the years. It’s the collective efforts of these amazing people that have made Angstrom Sciences, Inc. a thin film technology leader.
